About SCYC

Mission

The mission of the School Community Youth Coalition is to invest in our area youth by addressing substance abuse and violence issues among the youth of Montezuma and Dolores counties, including prevention, programming, education, assessment, treatment and sustainability.

History

The School Community Youth Coalition (SCYC) was formed in 1999 by local youth and family-serving organizations to respond to the risky environment to which our youth are exposed. The coalition group consists of committed and talented people working together to prevent substance abuse and violence in youth 10 to 24 years old.

Present

The SCYC is a coalition that connects non-profit, governmental and community-based organizations along with local business to promote system and community improvements for the benefit of youth and families in Montezuma and Dolores Counties. Through research, training and the coordination of resources, the School Community Youth Coalition takes a leadership role in improving the quality of life for youth and families.

The SCYC is successful in enhancing existing community programs as well as new programs and strategies. We have strong community support. We believe the diversity, expertise and passion of our members makes a difference in our community.
